Jannik Sinner defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the US Open semi-finals on Friday to set up another blockbuster showdown with Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s final.

The defending champion was sharp in the opening set but had to steady himself after the Canadian 25th seed fought back to level the match. Sinner briefly took a medical timeout for stomach discomfort, yet returned composed, raising his level to reclaim control in the third set before closing out the contest with assured serving in the fourth.

The Italian’s win ensures a third successive Grand Slam final meeting with Alcaraz, who earlier swept aside Novak Djokovic in straight sets. Their rivalry has already defined this season, with the Spaniard retaining his French Open title against Sinner before losing to him at Wimbledon.

“The Grand Slams are the most important tournaments we have, and to be in another final is amazing,” Sinner said. “Felix played incredible today, but I stayed positive and kept fighting.”Three years on from their five-set quarter-final classic in New York, Sinner and Alcaraz return to Arthur Ashe Stadium with the stakes even higher: the US Open crown and supremacy in the men’s game.
