Sokoto PDP Claims APC Orchestrated EFCC Move Against Tambuwal

August 12, 2025

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has condemned the arrest of former governor and serving senator Aminu Tambuwal, describing it as a politically motivated move orchestrated by rivals in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tambuwal, who served as governor of Sokoto for eight years, was taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday and questioned over alleged financial misconduct during his tenure.

In a statement signed on Tuesday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, the Sokoto PDP alleged that the arrest was part of a wider plan by the APC to intimidate political opponents and stifle growing dissent against the current administration.

According to the statement, the investigation is nothing more than an attempt to revive an old, baseless case that has repeatedly failed to yield credible evidence.

“This so-called probe is the handiwork of political actors in Sokoto and Abuja, desperate to tarnish Tambuwal’s enviable image and pressure him into abandoning his stance against misrule,” the party declared.
