The Sokoto State Government has unveiled an innovative e-ticketing system for its 126 mass transit vehicles, marking a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in public transportation. The vehicles currently serve inter-state, intra-city, and inter-local government routes.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, during a demonstration of the e-ticketing system, lauded the initiative as part of his administration’s broader agenda to modernize government operations and ensure financial transparency. He expressed confidence that the system would promote a cashless economy and channel all transportation revenue directly into government coffers.
“This system is commendable. It ensures value for the money spent on the 126 vehicles deployed for mass transit services and will significantly reduce cases of financial mismanagement,” the governor stated.
Governor Aliyu highlighted the added benefits of the e-ticketing initiative, including efficient supervision of the vehicles and their roadworthiness. He also emphasized the program’s potential to create job opportunities and boost state revenue. While pledging his administration’s support, he urged the consulting firm overseeing the project to continuously improve the ticket acquisition process for passengers.
Speaking at the event, Alhaji Mode Yawa Shagari, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Mass Transit, and Mr. Mahmud, a representative of the consulting firm, described the initiative as a groundbreaking move. They noted its dual benefits of convenience for passengers and increased revenue for the government, underscoring its potential to transform public transportation in the state.
The e-ticketing system precedes the release of additional mass transit vehicles under Governor Aliyu’s administration, further demonstrating the government’s commitment to revolutionizing transportation services in Sokoto State. Residents have expressed optimism that this development will not only enhance service delivery but also ensure accountability in the management of public resources.
This move positions Sokoto as a leader in adopting technology-driven solutions for public service, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
