Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has declared that the Labour Party (LP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) no longer have political relevance in the state, following the outcome of the recent by-elections held on Saturday.

Speaking at a victory rally for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Nanka on Sunday, Governor Soludo described the results as a clear rejection of the opposition alliance despite active support from former Governor Peter Obi, who campaigned for ADC candidates.

“ADC does not exist in Anambra. Labour Party is dead,” Soludo said to thunderous applause from APGA supporters dressed in the party’s symbolic cock-branded attire.

According to the governor, the by-elections were intended by LP and ADC to serve as a litmus test for a new political alliance ahead of the 2027 elections. However, the results, he noted, demonstrated overwhelming support for APGA, which secured over 75 percent of the votes.

“APGA is our movement,” Soludo asserted.

In the Anambra South Senatorial District by-election, APGA’s Emmanuel Nwachukwu emerged victorious with 90,408 votes, far ahead of his closest rival, Azuka Okwuosa of the APC, who garnered 19,847 votes. ADC’s Donald Amangbo came in third with 2,889 votes. Nwachukwu will succeed the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away in July 2024.

In another significant win, APGA’s Ifeoma Azikiwe clinched the Onitsha North Constituency 1 seat in the State House of Assembly a district widely regarded as Peter Obi’s political stronghold.

Governor Soludo emphasized that several high-profile figures, including senators and members of the House of Representatives, campaigned vigorously for the ADC-LP alliance but were rejected by the electorate.

“They brought their full weight into it. It looked like an allied force. But the people of Anambra made their decision,” he stated.

He described the outcome as a decisive message from the electorate: “They wanted to test-run this new coalition with ADC, but the people responded. With about 77% of the votes, the message is loud and clear — both ADC and Labour Party are politically finished in Anambra.”

Soludo, who is also a former Central Bank Governor, is currently preparing for his re-election bid in the upcoming November 8, 2025, governorship election on APGA’s platform. He recently met with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, reaffirming his continued political alignment and long-standing relationship with the president.
