Alexander Sorloth and Ademola Lookman inspired Atletico Madrid to a stirring 4-2
victory over Espanyol at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, ending a four-match winless
run and strengthening their top-four push.
Espanyol struck first through Jofre Carreras, but Sorloth dragged Atletico level
midway through the first half, finishing smartly after Marcos Llorente’s incisive play.
From that moment, the hosts seized control.
Giuliano Simeone put Atletico ahead early in the second half before Lookman
stretched the lead with a brave diving header just before the hour mark.
Sorloth then rose highest to power home his second of the night, sealing a result that
made Edu Exposito’s late effort irrelevant.
The victory moves Atletico level on points with Villarreal and six clear of Real Betis,
while Espanyol remain sixth and chasing from a distance.
