Spain stretched their unbeaten streak in competitive matches to a record 30 after a dominant 4-0 win over Georgia in Tbilisi, sealing another step toward the FIFA World Cup.
It took just 10 minutes for La Roja to take control. A Giorgi Gocholeishvili handball gifted Spain a penalty, and Mikel Oyarzabal, winning his 50th cap, calmly sent Giorgi Mamardashvili the wrong way.
From there, Georgia’s attacks were intermittent and largely reliant on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, while Spain moved the ball with ease and purpose.
Alex Baena struck the woodwork before Martín Zubimendi pounced midway through the first half to make it 2-0.
Moments later, Baena released Oyarzabal, who squared for Ferran Torres to finish from close range. Only Mamardashvili’s brilliant reflexes kept the scoreline down before the break.
Georgia were livelier after the restart, with debutant Iuri Tabatadze forcing a save and Anzor Mekvabishvili testing Unai Simón from distance.
But Spain remained in full control, and Oyarzabal capped the evening with a looping header off the post for the fourth.
It marked Spain’s fifth straight win in qualifying and put their World Cup place all but beyond doubt. For Georgia, it was a familiar ordeal, losing for the ninth time in ten meetings with La Roja.
