Tottenham Hotspur were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League quarter-final, despite a commanding second-half performance in north London.

The visitors stunned the home crowd with an early opener, as Hugo Ekitike fired home a brilliant strike inside six minutes following a swift counter-attack.

But Spurs responded in style, with Pedro Porro flicking in a clever equaliser midway through the first half.

Ange Postecoglou’s side dominated after the break, striking the crossbar twice and forcing several strong saves from Frankfurt keeper Kaua Santos.

However, the winner eluded them, leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of next week’s return leg in Germany.

The result also extended Spurs’ unbeaten home record in European competition to 19 games.
