Elon Musk’s Starlink network has issued an apology following a significant outage that left thousands of users without internet access for several hours.
In a statement posted on the company’s official X account at approximately 8:15 p.m. ET on Thursday, Starlink announced, “The network issue has been resolved, and Starlink service has been restored. We understand how important connectivity is and apologize for the disruption.”
Musk later shared this message, having previously expressed his regrets over the outage and reassured users that the disruption would be temporary. “SpaceX will remedy the root cause to ensure it doesn’t happen again,” the tech entrepreneur stated.
Before 4 p.m. on Thursday, thousands of reports began to flood the Down Detector website, with 65 percent of users indicating a “total blackout” of service.
Starlink, a satellite internet constellation operated by SpaceX, provides global telecommunications services and aims to deliver mobile broadband coverage to approximately 130 countries and territories.
Among those affected was Miss Morenike Akinfesoye, a UK-based student currently on holiday in Nigeria, who expressed her frustration with the service disruption in Lagos, where she was forced to rely on a slow and unreliable local network.
The company’s official website also went down temporarily, displaying a “no healthy upstream” error, further fueling user frustration.
The outage appears to have affected users across multiple continents, including North America, Europe, and Africa. Reports of connectivity loss poured in from Colorado, Germany, and Zimbabwe, suggesting a widespread technical issue rather than a localized disruption.
