VfB Stuttgart seized control of their Europa League playoff with a dominant 4-1 first-
leg win over Celtic in Glasgow.
The visitors capitalised on early sloppiness as Bilal El Khannouss opened the
scoring after a poor clearance from Kasper Schmeichel.
Celtic levelled through Benjamin Nygren following a defensive mix-up, but Stuttgart
quickly regained the lead when El Khannouss headed home his second.
Jamie Leweling made it 3-1 before the hour mark, and although Ermedin Demirovic
had a goal ruled out, Stuttgart’s superiority was evident.
Tiago Tomas wrapped up the victory in stoppage time to give the Bundesliga side a
commanding cushion.
Celtic now face a steep task in the return leg.
