Mamelodi Sundowns claimed their first-ever FIFA Club World Cup victory with a 1-0 win over Ulsan HD in Orlando, piling more misery on the Korean side, who have now lost eight of their last nine games against foreign opponents.
The South African champions had a goal disallowed just before the half-hour mark after VAR spotted a handball by Iqraam Rayners.
But the forward made amends minutes later, latching onto a Lucas Ribeiro through ball and finishing smartly into the bottom corner with the outside of his boot.
Ulsan came close to equalising before the break, only for Divine Lunga to head Ko Seong-Beom’s looping effort off the line.
Chances were scarce after the interval, with Ribeiro’s curling attempt being blocked in one of few openings.
Despite some late pressure, Sundowns held firm to take top spot in Group F, with Dortmund and Fluminense drawing earlier in the day.
Ulsan now sit bottom of the group and face an uphill battle to progress.
