The Super Eagles have secured their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with one game remaining in the qualifying round. Their qualification was effectively confirmed when bottom-placed Libya defeated Rwanda by a single goal in Kigali. Even if Nigeria loses to Rwanda in their final group match, they will still advance.

In their latest match, the Super Eagles played to a 1-1 draw against the Benin Republic’s Cheetahs. With one round of matches remaining, Nigeria tops the group with 11 points from five games. During the match on Thursday, the Cheetahs struck first in the 16th minute with a stunning header from Mohamed Tijani, who wore the number 13 jersey. The Cheetahs gained the upper hand after their opening goal but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. However, Nigeria’s sensational striker, Victor Osimhen, equalized in the 81st minute, scoring with a powerful header from a cross by Moses Simon. This goal marks Osimhen’s impressive tally of 23 goals for the Super Eagles in just 38 appearances for his country.
