Nigeria’s preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations gathered momentum on Monday night as 22 Super Eagles players took part in their first full training session in Cairo.
Head coach Eric Chelle led the session, though key attackers Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and Moses Simon were absent and are now set to miss Tuesday’s friendly against Egypt.
Sources indicate Osimhen and Simon are expected to join the squad later in Morocco.
Blackburn Rovers full-back Ryan Alebiosu was the latest arrival, boosting numbers after earning a late call-up following injuries to Ola Aina and Benjamin Fredrick. Six more invited players are still expected to report.
The friendly against Egypt will allow Chelle to assess fringe and newly invited players as Nigeria intensify their build-up to the tournament.
The Super Eagles will open their AFCON 2025 campaign against Tanzania on December 23, before facing Tunisia and Uganda in Group C.
Nigeria are chasing a fourth continental title when the tournament kicks off in Morocco later this month.
