Nigeria’s Super Eagles will avoid top African football powerhouses such as hosts Morocco, defending champions Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Ivory Coast in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw, having been placed in Pot 1.

The draw for the 35th AFCON finals will take place on Monday at the Mohamed V National Theatre in Casablanca, with Super Eagles head coach Eric Sékou Chelle, team administrator Dayo Enebi Achor, and NFF Technical Committee chairman, Sharif Rabiu Inuwa set to attend.

The tournament, scheduled to run from December 21 to January 18, will make history as the first AFCON to span two calendar years and will mark Morocco’s first time hosting since 1988.

Despite their Pot 1 seeding, Nigeria could face strong opponents from Pot 2, which features Cameroon, Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, DR Congo, and Burkina Faso.

Pot 3 consists of Gabon, Angola, Zambia, Uganda, Equatorial Guinea, and Benin Republic, while Pot 4 includes Mozambique, Comoros, Tanzania, Sudan, Zimbabwe, and tournament newcomers Botswana.

Nigeria, a three-time AFCON champion (1980, 1994, 2013), holds a record 16 medals in 20 appearances and has played 104 matches in the competition’s history—only behind Egypt, Ivory Coast, and Ghana.
