Nigeria’s Super Falcons were held to a goalless draw by Algeria in their final Group B clash at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday but still finished as group winners.
Already assured of a quarter-final place, Nigeria dominated proceedings in Casablanca but failed to convert 24 attempts into goals, with Algeria’s goalkeeper Chloé N’Gazi making crucial saves.
The result ended the Falcons’ run of 12 consecutive wins in final group matches but kept their record of not conceding in the group stage intact.
Nigeria will now face Zambia in the quarter-finals on July 17, a rematch of the 2022 third-place playoff. Botswana beat Tunisia 2-1 in the group’s other game to stay in the hunt for a knockout spot.
