Nigeria’s Super Falcons made a confident start to their final round of 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers, beating Benin Republic’s Amazons 2–0 on Friday evening at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé.

First-half strikes from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo handed the 10-time African champions a comfortable advantage ahead of Tuesday’s return leg in Nigeria.Just days after the Super Eagles’ emphatic 4-0 win over Benin in the men’s World Cup qualifiers, the Falcons continued Nigeria’s regional dominance with a composed display.

Deborah Abiodun’s incisive pass split the Beninese defence for Ihezuo’s opener, before Okoronkwo doubled the lead with a calm finish before half-time.Abiodun was outstanding in midfield alongside Tosin Demehin and Rasheedat Ajibade, anchoring the team’s control through tidy passing and disciplined shape.

Head coach Justine Madugu later introduced Shukurat Oladipo to close out the match, ensuring a clean sheet and a professional finish. With a two-goal cushion and home advantage to come in Abeokuta, the Super Falcons are well on course to book their place at next year’s WAFCON in Morocco.
