Poland secured their place in the United Cup final as Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz delivered decisive victories against Kazakhstan on Saturday in Sydney.
World number two Swiatek defeated Elena Rybakina 7-6, 6-4, sealing Poland’s 2-0 triumph and ensuring their spot in the championship match.
Reflecting on her win, Swiatek said, “This victory makes me really proud. It’s perfect preparation for the Australian Open.”
Earlier, Hubert Hurkacz laid the foundation with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 win over Alexander Shevchenko in the men’s singles.
Poland, last year’s runners-up, will face either the United States or the Czech Republic in Sunday’s final as they chase their first United Cup title.
