Over 50 residents have been kidnapped and six others killed in a series of coordinated attacks by terrorists in Funtua and Dandume Local Government Areas of Katsina State. The attacks began on Saturday night and continued into Sunday afternoon—leaving several communities in turmoil. Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen invaded villages around 10:30 p.m. where they abducted men, women, young girls and children. Two victims were reportedly killed in Layin Garaa while four others were murdered in Mai Kwama, both in Dandume. Confirming the incident, the village head of Layin Garaa, Mustapha Abdullahi characterized the situation as devastating—citing growing food insecurity and displacement. “Our people are suffering, and these attacks have made things worse. Security presence is minimal and ineffective,” he lamented. Efforts to get comments from the Katsina State Police Command were unsuccessful as the spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq did not respond to calls. Similarly, the state’s Commissioner of Internal Security, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu asserted that he was out of town and unavailable for immediate comment.
