President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to the winners of the August 16, 2025, by-elections held across 16 constituencies in 12 states, where the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in 12 of the contests.
The President’s reaction was conveyed in a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, as reported by Punch.
According to official results, APC clinched victories in 12 constituencies, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured two seats. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) each won one seat.
President Tinubu commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he described as largely peaceful and credible elections, praising the commission for delivering “hitch-free elections, mostly devoid of violence.”
He also lauded the newly appointed APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, for leading the party to its first significant electoral success under his leadership. The president noted that the chairman had “demonstrated leadership capacity and shown what is possible when popular candidates are presented and unity is maintained among party leaders.”
Tinubu extended his appreciation to APC governors and party leaders for their efforts in securing the victories, and thanked party supporters and voters for their continued faith in the ruling party.
“To all APC faithful and the electorate, thank you for the confidence reposed in our party. Be assured that our Renewed Hope slogan is not a mere slogan. Our destination is a better, more secure and prosperous Nigeria. We shall take you there, by the Grace of God,” the president said.
He also congratulated all political parties and candidates who took part in the elections, urging them to uphold the values of sportsmanship, fair play, and magnanimity key pillars, he emphasized, for sustaining democracy in the country.
