President Bola Tinubu touched down in Tokyo, Japan, in the early hours of Monday ahead of a series of official engagements, including his participation in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).

According to the State House, Tinubu’s aircraft arrived at Haneda Airport around 1:00 a.m. local time, where he was welcomed by Ambassador Hideo Matsubara, Japan’s representative for TICAD.

The conference, set to take place in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, will feature President Tinubu alongside other African leaders and international stakeholders focused on advancing development across the continent.

In a statement last week, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noted that the President’s schedule includes not only attending the main plenary sessions, but also holding bilateral talks and meeting with top executives of Japanese companies currently operating in Nigeria.

Following the conclusion of his visit to Japan, Tinubu is expected to travel to Brasília for a two-day state visit to Brazil. The visit, scheduled for August 24 and 25, comes at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
