President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday announced that his administration had surpassed Nigeria’s 2025 revenue targets months ahead of schedule, assuring that the country would no longer rely on borrowing to finance government expenditure.

Speaking at the State House in Abuja during a visit by members of The Buhari Organisation (TBO), led by former Nasarawa State Governor, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, the President said Nigeria’s economy had regained stability under his leadership.

“Today, I can proudly declare that Nigeria is not borrowing. We achieved our full-year revenue target as early as August,” Tinubu said, drawing applause from the gathering.

He attributed the turnaround to stronger non-oil revenue inflows, which he said were shielding the economy from external shocks and restoring investor confidence.

Addressing concerns about global trade tensions, Tinubu dismissed recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, noting that Nigeria was building resilience through diversification. “If non-oil revenue continues on this trajectory, we have no reason to fear whatever Trump is doing elsewhere,” he said.

The President also unveiled plans for a nationwide agricultural mechanisation programme to boost food security, create jobs, and entrench food sovereignty.

Highlighting progress in stabilising the exchange rate, Tinubu recalled: “When I took office, it was N1,900 to the dollar; today it is around N1,450. The rates are stabilising, and businesses no longer need personal connections to transact. What matters now is exporting, importing, and creating jobs.”

Tinubu grew emotional as he reflected on his alliance with the late President Muhammadu Buhari, recalling their shared political struggles and eventual triumph in 2015. He pledged to immortalise Buhari by establishing a “Buhari House,” which he described as a symbol of “joy and prosperity.”

On political appointments, the President urged patience, admitting that pressure was high but slots were still open, particularly in ambassadorial postings.

In his remarks, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, reaffirmed the loyalty of former CPC members to Tinubu’s administration, dismissing speculations of division. He also commended Tinubu’s role in Buhari’s political rise and the honour accorded the late leader.

Senator Al-Makura praised Tinubu for stabilising the country, describing his alliance with Buhari as one founded on discipline, justice, and unity. He assured the President of the Buhari political family’s “total and unwavering support” as Nigeria heads towards the 2027 elections.
