President Bola Tinubu has nominated Dr. Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, as the new Minister of State for Finance.

Oyedele is set to replace Dr. Doris Anite-Uzoka, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, her third portfolio under the current administration.

The nomination was formally transmitted to the Senate on Tuesday in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, according to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

A native of Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, Oyedele previously led the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he spearheaded a sweeping restructuring of Nigeria’s tax system.

Oyedele, 50, is an economist, accountant and public policy expert. He earned a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and later obtained a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He has also completed executive programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Before his public service role, Oyedele spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He currently serves as a professor at Babcock University and as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.

As Minister of State for Finance, he is expected to drive the implementation of the tax reforms he championed, as the administration intensifies efforts to boost revenue and sustain economic restructuring.
