President Tinubu to observe Eid el Fitr in Lagos

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have returned to Lagos following the conclusion of a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, where the Nigerian leader held high-level diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations.

The presidential aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at about 1:15 a.m. on Friday. The President was received by top government officials, including Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Also present were the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress.

Tinubu is expected to remain in Lagos for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations before returning to Abuja to resume official duties at the Presidential Villa.

During the visit, the President and the First Lady were hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at a state banquet held at Windsor Castle, underscoring the diplomatic significance of the trip.

The visit also featured bilateral talks between Tinubu and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street, where both leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Key outcomes of the engagement included the signing of Memoranda of Understanding on ports development and broader trade collaboration, reflecting ongoing efforts to boost economic ties, improve infrastructure and enhance investment opportunities.

Nigeria and the UK share long-standing historical and economic relations, with Britain remaining one of Nigeria’s major trade and investment partners. Analysts say the agreements reached during the visit could support Nigeria’s efforts to modernise its ports and expand international trade capacity.

Tinubu departed Abuja earlier in the week at the invitation of the British government, marking one of his latest diplomatic engagements focused on strengthening global partnerships.
