Tinubu Urges Unity, Compassion as Muslims Celebrate Eid-el-Fitr
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to uphold the values of unity, compassion and peaceful coexistence as they mark the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, signalling the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
In a message issued on Thursday through his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, the President congratulated Muslims across the country and urged them to reflect on the spiritual lessons gained during the fasting period.
Tinubu noted that Ramadan is a time of deep reflection, discipline and sacrifice, emphasising that the virtues of piety, selflessness and compassion should extend beyond the fasting season into everyday life.
“We must continue to abide by the virtues of piety, selflessness, perseverance, kindness and compassion beyond this period,” the President stated.
The President’s message comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with economic challenges, security concerns and social tensions. Observers say religious celebrations such as Eid-el-Fitr often serve as important moments for national reflection and renewed calls for unity in a diverse country.
Tinubu stressed the importance of national cohesion, urging citizens to rise above ethnic and religious differences in the interest of peace and development. He also encouraged Muslims to extend acts of charity to the less privileged, noting that such gestures help strengthen social bonds and promote inclusiveness.
In many parts of Nigeria, Eid-el-Fitr is marked by prayers, family gatherings, and acts of generosity, particularly towards vulnerable groups. The President said these traditions should be sustained as a way of reinforcing the spirit of brotherhood across communities.
He also called on religious leaders to use the occasion to pray for peace, stability and economic progress in the country, expressing optimism that Nigeria would overcome its current challenges through collective effort.
Tinubu wished Muslims a joyous celebration and prayed that the blessings of Ramadan would bring renewed hope, strength and guidance to individuals, families and the nation.
