Tinubu Vows State Police Won’t Be Delayed, Expresses Hope in Economic Recovery
Assurance has been given that plans to introduce state policing as part of efforts to address insecurity remain firmly on course, alongside renewed optimism about the country’s economic recovery, according to President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during an interfaith Iftar with governors and top government officials at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Abuja to mark the first fast of the 2026 Ramadan season, Bola Tinubu said the commitment to decentralised policing would be fulfilled without delay. He also expressed confidence that the nation had moved past a period of economic instability, noting signs of gradual improvement.
He noted that the move towards state policing would not be delayed, describing it as a necessary reform aimed at complementing federal security structures and addressing the growing complexity of security challenges nationwide. The President also conveyed optimism about economic recovery, maintaining that indicators suggest the country is gradually emerging from a period of uncertainty.
According to him, recent fiscal and monetary measures are beginning to yield results, with improvements in key sectors offering hope for sustained stability. He urged Nigerians to remain patient, assuring that ongoing reforms were designed to lay the foundation for long-term growth, job creation, and improved living standards.
During the engagement, the President appealed for restraint and dialogue among political actors amid rising tensions in parts of the country, emphasising that unity and cooperation remain essential for national progress. He further encouraged leaders across party lines to prioritise inclusiveness, particularly by creating opportunities for young people to participate meaningfully in governance and party activities.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for reflection on the spiritual significance of Ramadan, with the President calling on citizens to embrace compassion, tolerance, and support for vulnerable groups. He commended state governments that had initiated humanitarian and outreach programmes during the fasting period, noting that such efforts reinforce national cohesion and shared responsibility in challenging times.
