Prominent Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress Tiwa Savage has disclosed her decision not to sign upcoming artists as she cited the difficulties associated with artist management. In a recent interview, the award-winning musician revealed that handling artists can be overwhelming – making it a challenge she is not willing to take upon.

Savage, who has built an eminent career that spans over a decade expressed that managing musicians requires a level of patience and determination that she does not possess. She described artists as “a handful” and noted that their unforeseeable nature often creates additional pressure for managers and record labels.

“Everyone always asks me, ‘When will you sign an artist?’ I don’t think I have the gift to sign another artist because artists are stressful. I could just be sleeping, and then I’ll wake up to find my artist trending for something else,” she stated.

Rather than navigating the knottiness of artist management, Savage is canalizing her efforts into an initiative that aims at grooming young talents in a structured learning environment. She announced plans to establish a music school where aspiring musicians can sharpen their craft before seeking professional representation with established record labels.

“But I do have the gift to help, which is why I am trying to do the music school – where you can go and later sign to a label that can actually help you,” she explained.

Her decision stresses a broader commitment to supporting the growth of the Nigerian music industry and at the same time, leveraging her expertise in a way that aligns with her strengths. By prioritizing mentorship and education, she seeks to empower the next generation of artists which is achievable by equipping them with the requisite knowledge and skills for long-term success.

This move marks another milestone in Savage’s music career as it reflects her evolving role in the industry beyond performing. As she continues to make an impact, her focus on education and talent development could serve as a model for other established artists who are also looking to contribute meaningfully to the future of music.
