Tobi Amusan will look to reignite her 2025 Diamond League campaign in Shanghai on May 3, following a modest season opener in Xiamen where she placed fourth with a time of 12.74 seconds.
Returning to action in the 100m hurdles for the first time since Paris 2024, the Nigerian world record holder showed glimpses of top form but was outpaced by world champion Danielle Williams, who won in 12.53s.
Grace Stark and Marione Fourie also finished ahead of Amusan in a tightly contested race.
Despite the early setback, Amusan remains a force in the Diamond League, having claimed the overall title three years in a row from 2021 to 2023.
Now training under Glen Mills, former coach of Usain Bolt, she’s focused on regaining dominance.
The Shanghai field is stacked once again. Williams returns as the woman to beat, with Stark and Fourie in solid form.
Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, and veteran American Nia Ali are also expected to contend. China’s Wu Yanni rounds out the lineup.
With Tokyo 2025 on the horizon, Shanghai presents a critical checkpoint in Amusan’s quest to reclaim the Diamond League crown and fine-tune her rhythm on the road to the World Championships.
