Nigeria’s stars rose to the occasion at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland, with Tobi Amusan, Favour Ofili, and Ezekiel Nathaniel delivering standout performances that kept the country firmly in the global spotlight.

Amusan, Nigeria’s queen of the track, showed her trademark resilience in the 100m hurdles.

After narrowly advancing from her heat in 12.48s, she returned for the final with renewed determination, clocking the third-fastest time of her career to underline her readiness for the World Championships.

In the women’s 200m, Ofili maintained her growing reputation among the world’s elite, racing to third place in 22.25s.

The event was won by reigning world champion Shericka Jackson in a season’s best 22.17s, with Olympic bronze medalist Brittany Brown edging Ofili for second in 22.21s.

Nathaniel produced the night’s headline-grabbing moment, smashing his Personal Best and the Nigerian record in the men’s 400m hurdles with a blistering 47.31s run that earned him second place.

Only World Record holder Karsten Warholm, who stormed to a world-leading 46.28s, crossed the line ahead of him, while Abderrahman Samba followed in 47.34s.

Shot put specialist Chukwuebuka Enekwechi also featured strongly, throwing 21.58m to finish seventh as part of his steady build-up to next month’s World Championships.

American Payton Otterdahl won the event with 22.28m, ahead of Italy’s Leonardo Fabri and Joe Kovacs of the USA.

It was a night that showcased Nigeria’s depth and promise, with Amusan, Ofili, and Nathaniel lighting up Silesia with performances that signal greater battles to come.
