Media personality Toke Makinwa has ignited conversation among new mothers after sharing her unconventional approach to bathing her newborn, Yaya.

In a recent video message, Makinwa revealed that she avoids bathing her baby every day, arguing that frequent washing may harm an infant’s delicate skin. She noted that newborns, having spent nine months in the womb, are not “dirty” and therefore do not require daily cleansing.

“I know I’m a new mom, and I’m literally just learning as I go, but I really think excessive showering causes skin problems in babies,” she said. “Babies are not dirty. They’ve been inside the womb for nine months, and inside your womb is not dirty.”

The media star admitted she once judged her sister for following a similar routine with her niece, but changed her views after noticing its positive effects on the child’s skin. Now embracing the method herself, Makinwa said she plans to gradually introduce daily baths when Yaya is between four and six months old.

Her comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with many weighing in on the best hygiene practices for newborns.
