Sandro Tonali’s stunning 74th-minute strike secured a 2-1 victory for Newcastle against Brentford, sending them up to fifth place in the Premier League and boosting their Champions League qualification hopes.

Tonali’s goal, a powerful shot from an unlikely angle, was initially seen by Brentford boss Thomas Frank as a “one in a million cross,” with the midfielder admitting there was a bit of luck involved.

Despite this, manager Eddie Howe praised Tonali’s strike, calling it a “big moment” in their season and highlighting his ability to hit the ball with immense power.

Newcastle, who are now one point ahead of sixth-placed Chelsea, sit just behind fourth-placed Manchester City with a game in hand.

Howe expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, stating the win was vital in their push for a top-four finish and qualification for the Champions League.
