Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tonye Cole has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike to make his political allegiance clear.

Speaking in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today over the weekend, the Sahara Group co-founder advised Wike to officially join the APC to end speculations over his loyalty.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, has remained a key figure in the ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since the 2023 elections, even while serving in President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led federal cabinet.

Cole argued that a formal defection to the APC would not only clear the air about Wike’s political position but also help strengthen Nigeria’s democratic system and bring stability to Rivers State politics.

“Is he APC or is he PDP? As far as we know today, he is PDP.
“We cannot keep confusing the electorate in Rivers State and confusing Nigerians. It is dangerous for democracy when someone remains in one party but influences another,” Cole said.

“The only person who can put an end to this is the minister himself. I urge him to act honourably, leave the PDP and join the APC so that we are all standing on one platform, no division, no confusion,” he added.

Cole further stressed that such a move would allow each political party to freely consolidate its strength and compete fairly, which he described as the essence of democracy.

Wike, however, has repeatedly stated that he remains a member of the PDP despite his role in the APC-led administration.
