Tottenham are on the brink of signing RB Leipzig attacker Xavi Simons in a deal worth £51.8m.

The 22-year-old Netherlands international has completed his medical in England, with only the final details left to be finalised before the move is confirmed within the next 24 hours.

Chelsea had also shown interest earlier in the summer but shifted focus to Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, who is set for a £40m move to Stamford Bridge.

Simons will become Spurs’ third major signing of the summer after Joao Palhinha and Mohammed Kudus, with the club missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, the latter opting to join Arsenal.
