Tottenham Hotspur coach Igor Tudor has admitted that climbing the Premier League
table remains the club’s main priority despite their upcoming UEFA Champions
League last-16 tie against Atlético Madrid.
Spurs sit 16th in the league, just one point above the relegation zone, after losing
their first three league games since Tudor replaced Thomas Frank.
“Our first aim is the Premier League; this should be said publicly,” Tudor said. “This
competition is something extra, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want to go to the next
round.”
The Croatian acknowledged the challenge posed by Diego Simeone’s side.
“We’re playing against a team with history in this competition. They have experience
and quality,” he said.
Tottenham face a crucial domestic run between the two European legs, including a
league trip to Liverpool and a key clash with Nottingham Forest.
Tudor believes the Atletico encounter could still help spark improvement in his
struggling side.
“These kinds of games can help us switch in the right way and see which problems
we have,” he added.
Spurs will welcome back Cristian Romero from suspension, while Djed Spence is
also fit despite a lengthy injury list.
