US President Donald Trump on Wednesday approved a new order imposing an extra 25 percent tariff on Indian imports, citing New Delhi’s ongoing purchase of Russian oil a major source of funding for Moscow’s war in Ukraine.
The new tariff, which will take effect in three weeks, comes in addition to a separate 25 percent levy scheduled to be enforced from Thursday.
Exemptions remain in place for certain items already subject to sector-specific tariffs, including steel and aluminum, as well as for potential categories like pharmaceuticals.
