Founder of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare has asserted that only God can remove President Bola Tinubu from office.

He made the remark while turning down mounting pressure to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking on Saturday at the inaugural session of the Citadel School of Governance Dialogue Series, themed “Nigeria at 65: Historical Reflections, Futuristic Projection,” held in Oregun, Lagos, Bakare said his conviction in Tinubu’s presidency is rooted in divine will.

He argued that the gains Tinubu has made could not have been achieved without God’s backing.

“If God wants to remove ‘emilokan,’ He knows how to do it. You can’t get the kind of thing Tinubu has brought without God’s support,” he told the audience.

Bakare also revealed that several political actors, including prominent figures from within and outside the APC, have approached him, urging that he shift allegiance to the ADC in preparation for the 2027 elections.

Though some pressures came while he was abroad, Bakare said the appeals persisted, urging him to lend his voice to the opposition.

He firmly rebuffed the overtures.

“There’s been a lot of pressure on me … to join ADC. They come to my home. Even while I was abroad, the hierarchy of that party kept calling, saying they needed my voice,” he said.

“I am not going to take part in ADC. The last time I knew about ADC was about a plane that crashed. … But you don’t birth a child called APC and then try to kill it yourself.”

Bakare reminded the crowd of his role in the formation of the APC, stressing his commitment to its continuity. He warned against internal divisions that could destabilize the party, drawing a parallel with historical splits in the Southwest, such as the Awolowo – Akintola crisis.
