The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has cleared the air on a fire scare at one of its Lagos branches, assuring the public that no casualties were recorded.
The bank explained in a late Tuesday statement that the incident, which occurred at Afriland Tower on Broad Street, Lagos Island, was wrongly circulated online as happening at its headquarters, UBA House, Marina.
“The affected building is not our head office on Marina but one of our branch locations on Broad Street. We have safeguarded all employees and customers at the branch,” UBA stated.
The bank also encouraged members of the public to rely on its official communication channels for accurate information, instead of unverified reports on social media.
Emergency responders later confirmed that the situation was quickly contained. According to officials familiar with the response, the incident produced more smoke than flames and had already been brought under control before their arrival.
“By the time we got there, the fire had been handled internally. It was a minor case, more of smoke than fire,” an official noted.
