The United States Embassy in Nigeria has suspended all visa appointments slated for Wednesday, March 4, 2026, over security concerns linked to a possible outbreak of protests in Abuja amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran.

In a notice published on its website, the Embassy alerted American citizens to the likelihood of demonstrations in the Federal Capital Territory and advised them to remain indoors.

“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja informs U.S. citizens that there is a high potential for protests in Abuja tomorrow, March 4, 2026, due to the current conflict with Iran,” the statement read.

It added that previous demonstrations by certain groups had escalated into violent confrontations with Nigerian security forces, strongly recommending that all U.S. nationals in Abuja stay in their residences throughout the day.

The advisory follows mounting global tension after Iranian state and local media reported the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, allegedly killed in airstrikes attributed to the United States and Israel.

Reports also indicated that several senior Iranian officials died in the strikes, prompting swift retaliatory action from Tehran.

Iran is said to have launched multiple missiles at U.S. military bases across Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, vowing to avenge the deaths of its leader and other top officials.

The confrontation, which began with coordinated U.S.-Israeli strikes over the weekend, entered its fifth day with no signs of de-escalation.
