Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was left frustrated as James Tarkowski’s 98th-minute strike secured a 2-2 draw for Everton in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The match ended in chaos, with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones sent off, while Liverpool manager Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also dismissed for protesting referee Michael Oliver’s decisions.

Despite the setback, Liverpool remain seven points clear at the top, while Everton sit 15th, 10 points above the relegation zone.

“This is their cup final, and they would try to do everything in their power to make it difficult for us,” said Van Dijk. “It’s a big boost for them but a blow for us.”

With Everton set to move to a new stadium next season, David Moyes hailed the electric atmosphere, calling it “an old-fashioned throwback.”

The Everton boss remains focused on reviving the club, saying, “We want to get back to being a big club again.”
