Lekki, Lagos – November 16, 2024 – The Waka Community International Foundation successfully organized a vibrant 10km walk, aiming to raise awareness about men’s health issues. The event commenced at the Catholic Church of Divine Mercy, located on Admiralty Way, Lekki, drawing participants from diverse backgrounds, all united by a common goal: to create awareness on critical health challenges faced by men.

As the sun rose over Lekki, participants donned vibrant T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan “Let’s Waka for Men’s Health.”
Throughout the route, participants were met with cheers from onlookers, local businesses, and health advocates who provided support and information on various men’s health issues, men’s health issues, particularly prostate and testicular cancer, as well as erectile dysfunction. Refreshment stations were set up along the way, ensuring that walkers remained hydrated and energized.

During the event, Dr. Dorothy Jeff Nnamani emphasized that as men grow older, their testosterone levels tend to decrease, leading to potential enlargement of the prostate gland. She noted that engaging in regular walking exercise can help counteract this issue. Another speaker, Rtd Rear Admiral Chris Ezekobe, described life as a precious gift from God, highlighting that its maintenance and nurturing demand effort and proactive measures. He stressed the significance of exercise in enhancing our physical, mental, and emotional well-being, stating, “God gives life; exercise sustains it.”

Mr. Lawrence Mba, founder of Waka Community International Foundation, highlighted the need for early detection which gives men a fighting chance. He encouraged men not to die in silence highlighting the importance of awareness and prevention.

The 10km walk concluded back at the Lekki Catholic Church, where participants celebrated their accomplishment with a health fair featuring free screenings, fitness demonstrations, and wellness talks. The Waka Community International Foundation continues to play a vital role in promoting health education and awareness in the community, reinforcing the message that health is wealth for every man.
The “Waka” for Men’s Health train will be moving to the city of Jos come November 23, 2024.
