On March 29, 2025, the Waka Community International Foundation, in collaboration with Q-Life Family Clinic and the Health Emergency Initiative, hosted the fifth edition of their community road walk titled “LET’S WAKA WITH Q-LIFE AND HEI.” This year’s walk just like previous years was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Ade Alakija, a revered medical director of Q-Life Family Clinic and a founding member of Waka Community International Foundation.

Dr. Ade Alakija, who served as the Chairman of the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) and was a member of the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Medical Association, made significant contributions to healthcare in Nigeria. His legacy continues to inspire many, and today’s event was a testament to the commitment of the organizations to honor his memory.

The event saw participation from over 55,000 members of the Waka Community across 47 countries, alongside numerous enthusiastic locals who gathered to promote health and wellness. Participants engaged in a 30-minute walk, emphasizing the importance of physical activity in maintaining overall health. The organizers highlighted that walking is a low-impact exercise that can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age or fitness level, and serves as a powerful tool for preventing various health conditions.

In addition to the walk, the Q-Life Family Clinic provided free health checks for all attendees, reinforcing the event’s focus on wellness. The medical team underscored the significance of taking personal responsibility for health through regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and adequate hydration. “We believe that a healthy Nigeria is a wealthy Nigeria,” said a representative from Waka Community International Foundation. “By encouraging our community to walk and adopt healthier lifestyles, we are taking steps towards a better future for all.”

Participants had the opportunity to share their experiences on social media platforms using the hashtag #WakaWithQLifeAndHEI, fostering a sense of global solidarity. The event also featured support from various partners, including Pocari Sweat, Veritas Kapital Assurance PLC, and health agencies who contributed to the success of the walk.

Adesina Mobarak, one of the participants says “What an amazing Saturday morning! Today, we came together not just to walk, but to celebrate life, good health, and the true spirit of humanity — all in honour of the iconic Dr. Adetokunbo Alakija. A big salute to every single participant, especially the vibrant young men and women who laced up and showed up!  I was particularly inspired by a 73-year young man, Mr. Jerry who led the warm-up session with so much energy, reminding us that age is truly just a number. We had people from different walks of life, different tribes, location, religions, and backgrounds — all united by one goal: to stay healthy and live well.t a number. Today reminded me again that the greatest religion in the world is humanity. And I can’t wait for the next waka — because walking together makes the journey sweeter.”

As the community continues to embrace the spirit of collaboration and wellness, the legacy of Dr. Ade Alakija will undoubtedly live on through these impactful initiatives.

Lawrence Mba, the dynamic and inspiring founder of Waka Foundation International, expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the remarkable turnout that exceeded all previous events. He remarked, “It was LOUD in Lekki and Ikoyi. It was a full house, so full the parking lot spilled onto the street.

We called, and you answered. Thank you, Lagos. Thank you for believing in our efforts.  We keep walking.  Waka makes sense”
