Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has assured that the state of emergency in Rivers State will be lifted on September 18.

Wike gave the assurance on Saturday after casting his vote in the ongoing local government elections in the state.

“As far as we are concerned, this election is peaceful, and people are trooping out. By September 18, the state of emergency will expire, the House of Assembly will resume, and government will return fully to the grassroots,” he said.

The minister noted that the conditions were now favorable for ending the emergency rule, as both the state and local governments had adequate representation.

It will be recalled that President Bola Tinubu had declared a six-month emergency in Rivers to forestall political crisis, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the State House of Assembly.
