Czech tennis star and reigning Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova has announced her withdrawal from the upcoming Australian Open as she continues to recover from a back injury.
The 29-year-old world number 10 revealed on social media that the injury, which she sustained during the WTA Tour’s Asian swing last year, remains unresolved. The issue also affected her performance at the WTA Finals in Riyadh in November.
“It’s disappointing because I love playing in Melbourne and have great memories from reaching the quarter-finals last year,” Krejcikova said. “I’m working hard to get back to full health and can’t wait to see you on the court soon.”
The Australian Open, set to take place from January 12-26, will now be without one of its top contenders as Krejcikova focuses on her recovery.
