Inah Canabarro Lucas, recognized as the oldest person and nun in the world, passed away at the remarkable age of 116 years and 326 days. Her title was confirmed in January after the passing of Tomiko Itooka from Japan, as reported by LongeviQuest. Based on report monitored on World Guinness Records website, Inah’s death occurred on April 30, a fact verified by the same organization.

Born on June 8, 1908, in São Francisco de Assis, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, Inah was so frail in her childhood that many doubted she would reach adulthood. Contrary to those expectations, she lived to become the oldest woman and person globally.

Inah embarked on her spiritual path at the age of 16. She began her training to become a nun on December 27, 1928, at the Santa Teresa de Jesus boarding school located in Santana do Livramento. She later moved to Montevideo, Uruguay, where she took her vows on July 27, 1934. Upon returning to Brazil, she worked as a teacher of Portuguese and mathematics at a school in Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, and continued to teach in various locations. In 1980, she accepted a position at the Provincial House in Porto Alegre.

Celebrating her 110th birthday, Inah received an apostolic blessing from Pope Francis, an honor she cherished. She credited her longevity to her faith in God, often stating, “He is the secret of life. He is the secret of everything.”

Inah was the second oldest nun ever documented, following Lucile Randon, known as Sister André, who held the title of the world’s oldest person until she passed away at 118. Inah was thought to be the last surviving individual born in 1908.
