Yellow Greens Begin Final Push for ICC U-19 Women World Cup in Lagos

December 27, 2024

Nigeria’s U-19 women’s cricket team, the Junior Female Yellow Greens, kicks off the second phase of their 2025 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup preparations on Friday in Lagos.

Following their successful qualification in September, the team initially trained at the Nigeria Cricket Federation’s (NCF) high-performance centre in Benin City.

The Lagos camp at TBS Oval marks the next step before their final pre-tournament preparation in India early next year.

“The team has been in Lagos before the holidays to finalise logistics ahead of their trip to India,” the NCF stated. “They will officially begin training on Friday, followed by a 10-day camp in India.”

This is Nigeria’s second appearance at a cricket World Cup, the first being the men’s U-19 squad’s historic qualification in 2019.

Captain Lucky Piety will lead an unchanged 15-player squad, including key players like Shola Adekunle, Peculiar Agboya, and Peace Usen, under the guidance of Kenyan coach Sarah Bakhita, assisted by former Yellow Greens captain, Blessing Etim.

Set to compete in Group C, the Junior Female Yellow Greens will face Samoa on January 18, New Zealand on January 20, and South Africa on January 22 in Malaysia.

The 2025 ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, held from January 18 to February 2, will see India defending their title as champions.
