Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Yoane Wissa from Brentford in a £55m deal, ending weeks of speculation over the DR Congo international’s future.
The forward, who scored 49 goals in 149 appearances for Brentford, arrives as one of two new strikers at St James’ Park alongside Nick Woltemade, replacing the departed Alexander Isak.
Wissa has been handed the iconic number nine shirt and spoke of his excitement after completing the move.
“I’m really happy to be here and to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League,” he said. “I can’t wait to get started.”
Eddie Howe praised the 27-year-old’s qualities, highlighting his pace, power and work rate. “Yoane is a player we have admired for some time,” said the Newcastle manager. “He brings proven Premier League quality and will complement our style of play. He immediately makes us stronger.”
The transfer comes days after Wissa’s public plea for Brentford to honour their promise and allow him to complete the switch to Tyneside.
