Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has come to the defense of Regina Daniels following allegations of domestic violence leveled against the actress’s husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.
In a viral video shared online, Jegede criticized both social media users and industry colleagues who mocked Regina instead of showing empathy for her alleged ordeal. She described the reactions as hypocritical and insensitive, questioning why many people measure abuse by wealth or social status.
“A young girl has come out to cry for help, saying she’s been violated in her home, and the first thing you people think of is—‘Isn’t she married to a rich man?’ If she was married to a poor man and he beat her, would that make it better?” Jegede asked.
The actress went on to reference a recent case involving a woman beaten days after childbirth, stressing that violence has no justification — regardless of a person’s financial status or background.
Jegede also directed sharp criticism at senior colleagues who publicly ridiculed Regina, calling their behavior “shameful.” She reminded them that everyone faces personal struggles and should show empathy rather than mockery.
“All those senior colleagues who once played her mother in movies and now laugh at her pain — shame on you. We all have stories; none of us is better,” she said.
Addressing potential backlash, Jegede, a single mother, made it clear that she would never condone abuse under any circumstance. “Once violence is involved, I will not sugarcoat it. I’ll always tell the victim — male or female — to leave. Your life and mental health come first,” she declared.
She urged victims of domestic abuse to prioritize their safety and walk away from harmful relationships, emphasizing that surviving is more important than saving face.
Jegede concluded by condemning the double standards and lack of compassion shown by many in society, reiterating that violence remains unacceptable, no matter the perpetrator’s wealth, age, or marital history.
