Morocco made history in Santiago with a stunning 2–0 victory over six-time champions Argentina to lift the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup, their first-ever FIFA title at any level.
Yassir Zabiri was the hero at Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Pradanos, scoring both goals in the first half to inspire the Atlas Cubs to glory and make Morocco only the second African nation, after Ghana in 2009, to win the tournament.
Argentina entered the final unbeaten, with 15 goals scored and only two conceded, but they were rocked early on when Zabiri was brought down by goalkeeper Santino Barbi. From the ensuing free-kick, Zabiri curled in a brilliant effort to open the scoring.
The North Africans doubled their lead on 29 minutes, as Ismael Baouf’s interception launched a quick break finished off by Zabiri from Othmane Maamma’s precise cross.
Argentina pushed hard through Mateo Silvetti and Gianluca Prestianni, but Ibrahim Gomis stood firm in the Moroccan goal.
Zabiri nearly sealed a hat-trick after the break, while substitute Ian Subiabre missed a golden chance for Argentina.
Despite dominating possession, the South Americans could not find a way through Morocco’s disciplined back line.
At full-time, Barbi was named Best Goalkeeper, the United States received the Fair Play Award, and Morocco’s Maamma claimed Player of the Tournament honors, fitting recognition for a team that shocked the world and etched their name into African football history.
