The Zamfara State Government says it realised a total of ₦358.9 billion in revenue for the 2024 fiscal year, marking 82 per cent of its projected ₦437 billion income target.

State Auditor-General, Abubakar Danmaliki, disclosed the figures in Gusau during the presentation of Zamfara’s Citizens Accountability Report for 2024.

According to him, the state’s major revenue inflows came from statutory allocations, Value Added Tax (VAT), Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and various grants and aids. He commended the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal for strengthening internal revenue systems, plugging financial leakages, and improving tax compliance across the state.

“In 2024, Zamfara witnessed notable growth in VAT, federal allocations, and internally generated income,” Danmaliki noted, describing the progress as a reflection of improved fiscal discipline and governance reforms.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Finance, Bello Auta, explained that the presentation marked the first edition of the state’s citizens-focused accountability report. He revealed that projects nominated by residents under the participatory budgeting process amounted to ₦105 billion, all of which were successfully implemented, including those under the Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI) initiative.

Auta also highlighted how the current administration had addressed past financial irregularities, such as unretired advances and off-record IGR spending.

“With improved transparency and fiscal prudence, the administration has completely reversed the previous lapses in financial management,” he stated.

He further explained that while the total revenue stood at ₦358.9 billion—₦79 billion short of the target—the state achieved 55 per cent capital expenditure performance out of the ₦292 billion budgeted. Recurrent expenditure on personnel fell short by 16 per cent, while other recurrent costs were executed at 63 per cent.

Auta added that the administrative sector accounted for 74 per cent of recurrent spending, while the economic sector received the largest share of capital investments at 41 per cent.

He disclosed that the top ten flagship projects embarked upon during the second year of the present administration were nearing completion.

Representing the Governor, the Head of Service, Alhaji Yakubu Haidara, said the event reflected the government’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement in governance.

Governor Lawal reiterated that public administration must remain open and participatory, stressing that citizens deserve to understand how state funds are generated and spent.

“The Citizens Accountability Report demonstrates our resolve to ensure that every kobo is used to provide meaningful services and infrastructure for the people of Zamfara,” he affirmed.

Lawal assured residents that his administration would continue to maintain open communication with the public regarding financial performance, project implementation, and the responsible use of public resources.
