Alexander Zverev fought back from a set down to defeat defending champion Alexei Popyrin 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 6-3 and secure a place in the Cincinnati Open semi-finals.
The 28-year-old German reached his 75th career ATP semi-final, joining Novak Djokovic as the only active men’s players to achieve the milestone.
He will now face Russian Karen Khachanov, who advanced with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win over American Alex Michelsen.
The tournament also confirmed Djokovic’s withdrawal for “non-medical” reasons. The 24-time Grand Slam champion has not played since his Wimbledon semi-final loss to Jannik Sinner and is unlikely to return before the US Open later this month.
