Atalanta BC produced a sensational comeback to beat Borussia Dortmund 4-1 and
seal a 4-3 aggregate victory, scoring with the final kick to book their place in the
UEFA Champions League last 16.
Trailing by two goals from the first leg, Atalanta struck early through Gianluca
Scamacca before a Davide Zappacosta effort deflected in to level the tie on
aggregate.
Mario Pasalic’s header then put the hosts ahead overall, only for Karim Adeyemi to
curl home and swing momentum back Dortmund’s way.
With extra time looming, late drama unfolded as Gregor Kobel lost possession
outside his box, leading to a VAR review and a penalty after Ramy Bensebaini’s high
boot.
Lazar Samardzic kept his nerve from the spot, sparking wild celebrations in
Bergamo.
Dortmund’s collapse ends their European run in painful fashion, while Atalanta
march on and await either Bayern Munich or Arsenal in the next round.
