BALOGUN’S MAGIC LIFTS MONACO PAST MARSEILLE IN TOP-FOUR RACE.
AS Monaco boosted their Champions League hopes with a vital 2-1 win over
Marseille, extending their Ligue 1 winning streak to seven matches.
After a cagey start, Monaco struck first just before the hour mark when Jordan Teze
lifted a precise delivery into the box for Aleksandr Golovin, who rose and guided a
sharp volley into the top corner.
Marseille pushed for a response, but Monaco doubled their lead through a moment
of brilliance, as Folarin Balogun latched onto a loose ball and audaciously lifted a
delicate finish over Gerónimo Rulli from a tight angle and into the far post.
The visitors pulled one back late when Amine Gouiri powered through challenges
before firing low beyond Lukas Hradecky, setting up a tense finale.
Monaco, however, held firm to secure a crucial victory that keeps them firmly in the
hunt for a Champions League place.
